Dilimi Soccer Outreach, powered by Lighthouse Rescue Sports Outreach (LRSO).
24th May, 2024.
Our Sports Outreach to the Jos Correctional Services (Prison) was successful yesterday.
Our team of eighteen (18) soccer players and six (6) LRSO staff were present.
We arrived on time and were checked before entering the Prison.
The game was a 5-aside soccer game.
Surprisingly, the inmates have a well-structured soccer body called ‘Prison FIFA’. They told us their rule is each half will be played for one (1) hour.
The inmates were so skilled and strong.
Our boys played their best.
And the game ended 10 – 5, in favour of the inmates.
It was a joyful atmosphere, with so many inmates cheering and excited.
At the end of the game, both teams sat at the center of the field away from the noise, and our captain shared his little life story for five (5) minutes. We could see how it caught the players’ attention.
Pastor Haruna Damina (LRSO Patron) prayed with the teams.
Some of the inmates requested socks that our players were wearing, so our players had to literally remove their game shoes, take their socks, and give them out to the inmates.
We gave them bars of soap, detergent, and a three thousand, five hundred naira (3,500) Prison FIFA game fee.
The players pleaded for us to come back again, so the prison warden suggested that we write a letter again.
One of our players told our president that he would donate a set of jerseys to the Prison team the next time we will come.
Our staff surprisingly saw people they knew in the locked-up prison.
We give God all the praise.
