#AthletesGathering
In 1996, Lighthouse Rescue Sports Outreach (LRSO) was founded as a faith-based nonprofit organization by a young man Geoffrey Bottson in Jos.
It began as volunteer group, reaching out to communities/schools, and committed to merge sportsmanship and athletic abilities to God’s glory, while seeking to change our communities and the world through sports.
ORGANIZATIONAL SPORTS MINISTRIES
Indigenous Church-Sports and Recreation Ministries (ICSRM)
ICSRM have sixty (60) Churches from six (6) states across Nigeria.
We follow up on them to ensure they keeping working hard to have ongoing Christian Sports Ministry in their Churches, that have discipleship classes and reaches out to others.
LRSO Prison Sports Ministry
LRSO Prisons Sports Ministry have Sports teams who visit prisons and play with the inmates, with the soul aim of bringing them hope through Christ.
This is because jails are a very fertile ground for planting the seed of the gospel. People incarcerated are often broken and desperate, “ripe unto harvest”. Many times they may call out to Jesus in a desire for real change, but do not fully understand what it means to follow Christ. LRSO Huddle (Evangelism & Discipleship) can help inmates clearly understand, genuinely embrace, and firmly hold on to the gospel.
That is why we have LRSO Prison Sports Ministry.
In LRSO, our passion is to see lives changed through the use of sports, recreation, play, and fitness ministries. We fulfill this through resourcing, training, and equipping coaches and local church leaders for sports ministry, in their communities and around the world.
Sports fandom transcends borders. We devour sports news, cheer in stadiums, hit the courts ourselves, and endlessly discuss the games. This universal love for athletics makes sports ministry a perfect platform for sharing faith, both locally and globally.
Think of a town united by their love for soccer, basketball, volleyball etc. Sports ministry can tap into this shared interest to connect with people and introduce them to religious values. By using the language of sports, they can build bridges, foster a sense of belonging, and ultimately share the message of hope and purpose found in religion.
This powerful link between sports and faith allows sports ministry to reach a vast audience. From local congregations to international sporting events, the enthusiasm for athletics provides a springboard to spread the gospel message far and wide.
